S&S Worldwide invited us to ride and film their new Axis prototype coaster. Needless to say it was an offer we couldn’t refuse. So we invited Alan Schilke and Joe Draves to join us, but Joe was on crutches and could only watch from the sidelines.
Similar to the company’s Free Spin coasters found at Six Flags parks across the U.S., but instead of spinning on your heartline vertically forwards and backwards, this one spins laterally left and right. This prototype uses the company’s revered air launch system due to the adjacent airport, but can be used with a standard lift hill as well. It stands 60 feet (18m) tall with 610 feet (186m) of track and launches from 0-47 mph (75.5 km/h) in 2 seconds reaching 2.5 Gs.
Check out the on-ride video we posted to see what it’s like to be in the front seat of this prototype coaster:
You can also watch the off-ride video we posted to see more of what this prototype coaster looks like and how it works:
The S&S Worldwide facility is located in Logan, Utah.
